Margot punched Alexander Skarsgård during a sex scene

Margot punched Alexander Skarsgård during a sex scene

Few romances have been adapted for the screen as often as the saga of Tarzan and Jane — whether it’s Johnny Weissmuller telling Maureen O’Sullivan, “Me Tarzan, you Jane” in 1932’s Tarzan the Ape Man or Andie MacDowell teaching Christopher Lambert English in the 1984 Greystoke.

But when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows director David Yates set out to cast the leading lady in his upcoming blockbuster The Legend of Tarzan, he knew he needed a Jane who, yes, had chemistry with Alexander Skarsgård but could also fend for herself in the Congolian wilderness. He found both in Margot Robbie.

“If you enter the jungle with anybody, you want to go with Margot Robbie,” Yates says. “She’s practical, and she’s smart, and she’s resourceful. And she can take care of herself.”

As the Jane to Skarsgård’s Tarzan, Robbie is anything but a passive wife who sits around, waiting to be saved — even when Christoph Waltz’s villainous Leon Rom tries to use her as bait for her husband. (In the Tarzan trailer, she refuses to scream “like a damsel” when Rom commands her to.)

“It was very important that we didn’t want it to feel archaic or dated, where it’s like, tough guy has to save the poor girl,” Skarsgård says. “You have to feel that she’s strong and independent, and when you cast Margot, you’ll definitely get that.”

In fact, Skarsgård got a firsthand look at that strength in one particularly steamy scene.

“They’re doing this love scene together, and I said [to Robbie], ‘Just slap Alex while you’re making love, just kind of give him a punch,’” Yates explains. “It was sort of an earthy, sensual moment of her enjoying sex with Alex, and the only bruise he picked up during the entire shoot was probably that punch from Margot. Which says a lot about her feistiness.”

Margot Attached To Play Ice Skater Tonya Harding In ‘I,Tonya’

Margot Attached To Play Ice Skater Tonya Harding In ‘I,Tonya’

Margot Robbie has come attached to I, Tonya, a script by Steven Rogers about the crazy story of Tonya Harding. Remember her? She was the ice princess who emerged from a poor upbringing and rough childhood in Portland, OR to rise to the top of the sport of figure skating with a ferocious determination and athleticism that allowed her to become the first American woman to complete the triple axel in major competitions. That propelled her to victory in the 1991 U.S. Figure Skating Championships and second in the World Championships.

She was expected to battle Nancy Kerrigan for gold in the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer. Of course, Harding is mostly known for the infamy that occurred when her husband, Jeff Gillooly, and a couple of hired thugs tried to incapacitate Kerrigan by breaking her leg. They merely bruised Kerrigan, got caught, and Gillooly turned against his wife as he tried to stay out of jail. Kerrigan wound up winning the silver medal at that Olympics, and the completely distracted Harding finished eighth as her life was circling the drain. As the ensuing scandal unfolded, the USFSA stripped Harding of her 1994 championship and banned her for life.

Why she’s more excited than anyone for Suicide Squad

Why she’s more excited than anyone for Suicide Squad

We’ve got a lot to look forward to this year in the realm of superhero films, not least of which is the upcoming Sucide Squad featuring the “worst heroes ever”. Director David Ayer assembled quite the interesting ensemble of actors to play the titular squad, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. With Sucide Squad’s release date just a few months away, many fans are growing quite excited to finally watch the film, and Margot Robbie is no different. During an interview with Hello Giggles, Robbie explained how she’s more excited than anyone about Sucide Squad.

I think I’m more excited than anyone about this movie. I’m not even going to pretend to play it cool. I am dying to see it. When people are like “I can’t wait to see it.” I’m like “You’ve got no idea, I want to see it more than you do!” I think it’s going to be so cool, and I just love that there’s a chick character who’s that badass, and who’s actually, like funnier and crazier and stronger than some of the males. I think that rarely happens. It’s an ensemble movie, and the ensemble is so strong. Every single cast member is brilliant. Everyone’s character is so good, everyone gets their moment in the film, and working with them was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. I love this squad.
